Help Phocas build a new boathouse, phase 2!
The student rowing association Phocas is moving! If everything goes according to plan, we will relocate this summer from our ramshackle boathouse along the Maas-Waal canal to our new location: the Bastion, along the Spiegelwaal. The new building will house five student watersports associations. We are incredibly pleased with the new boathouse and the opportunities it offers. We are still looking for funding for two facilities: the training area and the kitchen. Will you help us turn the €13,000 from our 2016 crowdfunding campaign into the €25,000 we need to ensure a bright future for Phocas?
Professional sports facilities
For many athletes, student rowing associations are a stepping stone towards national rowing teams, international competitions and even the Olympics! Koen Metsemakers, a former dentistry student at Radboud University, joined Phocas in his second academic year. This year he will represent the Netherlands in the men’s doubles at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics!
The new boathouse will help Phocas bring out the best in its rowers. The Bastion will house a large fitness area, which is ideal for warming up and injury prevention exorcises before and after training sessions. Both the dock and the warehouse will be expanded so that more teams can train in the water simultaneously. The highlight of the new boathouse will be the new indoor rowing area. This training area simulates outdoor rowing on open water and makes it possible to keep training even in the winter months.
Unforgettable student experience
Rowing at Phocas is the start of an incredible student experience in Nijmegen. For many students, this is a time of personal and academic development. The Bastion will become a new hub where everyone can come together and train together. Our new location offers teams the opportunity to eat and study together as well, which gives Nijmegen a unique location that supports students and rowers!
Help us finish the new boathouse!
A professional new boathouse will not only benefit the student association, it will also strengthen Nijmegen’s reputation as a watersport and rowing city. Would you like to help? You can make a donation on this site. Any amount is welcome!
